Marine Technology
Marine technology is a relative new specialization for Emit Software.
We focus on:
Autopilot Systems for Boats
Emit has developed a self-steering device with extended functionality:
- assistance of the bow thruster in case of low speed
- sending an alert via VHF and turning the boat in circles in case of soloist man-overboard situation
- heading can be based on electronic compass, but also on GPS only
- low energy consumption
- Android-app for extensive control

An Autopilot is a self-steering device for power or sailboats.
Emit has developed an Autopilot with an advanced PID Controller implementation and functionality that is new in the Market:
At low speed the rudder has not enough bite for steering. In that case the bow thruster will assist in the steering movements.
Another new feature is the man-overboard-mode (MOB-mode). This mode has been developed especially for soloists sailing on wide water.
The system automatically detects the MOB situation and reacts by sending an alert via VHF and turning the boat in circles (powerboats)
or against the wind (sailing vessels), until switched off.
Emit's Autopilot can be based on the traditional electronic compass as heading sensor, but also on a GPS, without the need for an electronic compass.
Especially on boats from steel this has an enormous advantage, as a proper location for an electronic compass is hard to find aboard,
and an electronic compass is easily disturbed by electromagnetic fields.
Primary design starting point was low energy consumption of the autopilot when in use.
In normal conditions the energy for a working Autopilot, including the power consumption of the electronic hydraulic pump, can be delivered by one Solar Panel of 60 X 80 cm.
The Autopilot can be controlled with an Android app that can be installed on a phone or tablet

Automatic Identification System (AIS) applications
Emit is applying AIS technology in knowledge based systems for:
- route planning on waterways
- optimal traffic control for locks
- track and trace in case of boat theft
- management information for law enforcement and harbor control
Emit contributed AIS data to MarineTraffic for many years.
